WONDER
19th Nov 2014
We recently spent a wonderful week with friends in the French Alps, we were blessed with beautiful sunshine, and as we walked we were overwhelmed by the beauty and wonder of our surroundings. A verse from the Psalms came flooding into my mind, “When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars which you have set in place, what is man.....?” (Psalm 8:3)
We all need to experience “wonder”, it puts life in perspective. We can be so occupied with the problems and pains of everyday life that we forget the God who wants to come into those situations and transform them. All our circumstances seem so big until we stand on a mountain and look at the handiwork of our God who is so much bigger, so great and so powerful.
Psalm 119:27 says, “I will meditate on your wonders”. As we look at all God has made, the majestic mountains, the crashing waves of the sea, the amazing creation where we live, we need to understand that we are the objects of His love and care.
Jesus explained to his disciples, “Look at the birds of the air...your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? See how the lilies grow....God clothes the grass...will He not much more clothe you. O you of little faith?” (Matthew 6: 26-30)
When life is trying to hem us in we need to step away from all that is restricting us and remember that the God who made the universe wants to perform wonders in our lives and set us free.
When King Darius, who had sent Daniel to the lions den, found out that he was still alive and had been rescued by God, he was greatly relieved and declared, “He is the living God, and he endures forever; he rescues and he saves, he performs signs and wonders.” (Daniel 6:27)
Let the God of “wonders” do some “wonders” for you!
