LIVING WATER
22nd Jul 2026
In 1976, Charles and I spent 6 weeks in South Africa, and returned to the UK shocked to find the ‘green and pleasant land’ was brown and parched, the result of a prolonged drought. We drove from Heathrow to Cornwall, and the landscape was scorched and desperately in need of water.
I looked out of my window today, remembering the shock of that scene and recognising a similar reality today. Every plant and tree crying out for rain. I began to thank the Lord for His supernatural supply of living water, and thank Him for the constant supply that never runs dry and never fails to refresh.
As Jesus said to the woman at the well in Samaria, “Whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” (John 4:14)
You and I need water welling up within us and pouring over us, bringing life to every area of our lives. How do we experience this? We become receivers and once again receive His love and grace. I meet so many dried-up believers who can tell of past experiences of rain and refreshing, but at this moment, they are just about alive, but not flourishing.
Come to Jesus and thank Him for His love for you over the years you have known Him. Deliberately remember His goodness and help. Thank Him for the promise to provide living water. Ask Him to pour out His resources.
If you are aware of sin, failure, and disobedience, ask for cleansing and forgiveness, and for a fresh flow of His Holy Spirit to release the internal flow of refreshing supernatural resources. Spend time with fellow believers who bring hope, strength and faith into your life, and avoid those who drain you of spiritual energy.
Pray for God’s mercy and grace for our nation, for those who minister God’s love, for spiritual rain to fall on this dry land and for new growth to be seen.
I love the verse in Job 14:9 which says, “At least there is hope for a tree, if it is cut down it will sprout again…. at the scent of water it will bud and put forth shoots like a plant.”
Are you dry, thirsty, weary? Receive living water today and be transformed.
