MAINTAINING PEACE
01st Jul 2026
Being robbed of peace is a common occurrence. The enemy of our souls wants to take away peace and replace it with fear and other gloom and doom scenarios. Over the weekend, we were travelling to a family event when a warning light came on in our car, and the power steering stopped working. We managed to return home safely, but the potential cost of repair and other possibilities were daunting.
This got me thinking about how we keep our peace whatever is going on around us. Philippians 4:4-7 is the key passage that addresses this issue. It begins, “Rejoice in the Lord always. I say it again: Rejoice!” Praise and worship, and getting our eyes on God and His mighty power is how we should begin every day of our lives. I have written before about how God will give us “A Song in the Morning” if we ask, and that will get our days off to a great start.
Verse 6 says, “Do not be anxious about anything” which is a direct command. I like the NKJV version of this phrase. “Be anxious for nothing”. Four words that are plain and simple and cannot be misunderstood. So that is how we need to address our dilemma.
The verse continues, “But in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” If we look at the problem, it only gets worse; we need to look to God, who can solve it.
Some years ago, I was looking at a pile of bills and wondering how I was going to pay them. I was growing miserable, and fear was beginning to rise. I was in my study when I caught sight of a photo of my family across the room. Thanksgiving rose within me, and I began to tell the Lord how grateful I was for my wife and children, and how they had been and were such a blessing. Then my phone rang, and my secretary told me that several cheques had arrived, but she hadn’t wanted to bother me because we had been on a free day. My needs had already been met!
The passage ends, “And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” God’s peace is His gift to His children and is always available. However, there is an important phrase “which transcends all understanding”. God may not give you all the answers you want about the battle for peace, but He will give you peace.
By the way, the car is fixed, and the cost was very reasonable!
Get your Bible and read Philippians 4:4-7 and make sure that the enemy does not succeed in robbing you of your peace.
