WHAT'S ON TOP?
24th Jan 2018
“Under the circumstances” “Under the weather” “Under pressure” these are a number of phrases that we may find ourselves using when describing how things are with us at the moment. As believers we should not be “under” anything, because “what’s on top” dictates how we feel and how we live.
That is one of the reasons I have practiced “A song in the morning” for many years. The moment I get up in the morning I tune my spiritual ears to heaven and download the song for the day - and then sing it in the shower! If praise is what I am singing first of all, then it will push down all the negative things that would like to dominate my thoughts.
A song that we used to sing many years ago goes like this -
With the high praises of God in our mouth
And a two-edged sword in our hand
We’ll march right on to the victory side
Right into Canaan’s land
Gird up your armour, ye sons of Zion
Gird up your armour, let’s go to war
We’ll win the battle with great rejoicing
And so we’ll praise Him more and more
Psalm 138:2 says, “...... for you have exalted above all things your name and your word.” So we start the day by exalting the name of Jesus.
Now we need the right “word” for the day. Smith Wigglesworth used to say, “I don’t ask Smith Wigglesworth how he feels in the morning, I tell Smith Wigglesworth how he feels and that comes not from my feelings but from the word of God.”
Hebrews 4:12 says, “The word of God is living and active sharper than a double edged sword....” Our day needs to begin with the praises of God, the Word of God and the promises of God. Hebrews 6:12 says, “We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what was promised.”
So “what’s on top” of your life today?
