WHAT GOD HAS PROMISED
01st May 2019
I love the way the psalmists often recount the wonderful ways that God helped His people; how they remembered all that He had done delivering them from Egypt, fulfilling His promise to give them a homeland.
The Bible tells of detailed incidents when God acted powerfully in the life of an individual, and as He is “no respecter of persons” we can learn how He treated people in the past and apply the principles to our own lives.
What God promises He will fulfil, but I believe there needs to be both a remembering and a reminding that needs to be active in us. Think back over the amazing things God has done in your life - actively remember and recount, tell your story of God’s faithfulness, give thanks and let faith rise in you. As you do this, recalling the facts of the significant God happenings in your life, it will help you to push into what you are praying and believing for today.
Joshua had experienced much of God at work, subduing enemies, rescuing when things went wrong. He also experienced God’s correction when he got things wrong, as well as God’s promises. As he stepped into Moses’ leadership shoes the words, “…. as I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you,” must have constantly echoed in his mind. (Joshua 1:5)
Caleb also had personal promises that he never forgot, and which took 45 years to become a reality. Joshua 14:6-14, tells how he pushed into believing God for the fulfilment of what he had waited 45 years for in faith, and he received it. He had his reward for following the Lord wholeheartedly.
Spend some time today actively recalling what God has done for you. Recount it to someone, maybe to your children, and then press into God in prayer for the, as yet, unfulfilled promise. Don’t let passivity or discouragement rob you of what God has promised.
