REFLEX ACTION
06th May 2015
In 2 Chronicles 16:12 it says “In the thirty ninth year of his reign Asa was afflicted with a disease in his feet. Though the disease was severe, even in his illness he did not seek the help of the Lord, but only from physicians.” This clearly did not please the Lord.
I am concerned that even as believers, our “reflex action” is not to go to God for his help, counsel and healing, but either to descend into fear or to only seek the help of man. When Joyce injured her leg recently, the first thing we did was to pray, we then put ice on the leg and proceeded to A & E. We received first class treatment from the hospital, but we are daily praying for God’s healing and strength to return to the leg, and everyone is amazed at how well she is doing, good mobility and pain getting less.
We are living in a very stressful society and many are struggling with pressure in work and in family life. Do we spontaneously go the the One who said, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you, not as the world gives”? Or are we only trusting in medication and other therapies.
When faced with loneliness and isolation, do we sink into depression and despair, or do we imitate Jesus, who in His moment of greatest abandonment said, “You will leave me all alone. I am not alone, for my Father is with me.”
When we are finding the complexities of life to great to handle, and the injuries of our past dominating our lives. Where do we go? The psalmist declared, “Your statues and my delight; they are my counsellors.”
I am not against the medical profession, but the diagnosis that we are given these days is so negative and fear inducing we need to get our eyes upon the One who is described as, “Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father and Prince of Peace.”
The voice of God must become louder than the voice of reason.
