POUR OUT YOUR HEART
10th Jun 2026
Psalm 62:8 says, “Trust in him at all times, pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.” Another translation says, “People trust God all the time, tell him all your problems, God is our protection.”
It is so easy to be overwhelmed by life's circumstances and let each problem land on us, building up a load that feels heavy and unmanageable. This time last week, I was at a family wedding, rejoicing in the family gathering and enjoying the sunshine.
Over the past few days, I have been aware of several very difficult circumstances that have brought about opposite emotions: waiting for news, praying for peace, and seeking to live “anxious for nothing!” It is so easy to find yourself unable to change the situation, yet still seeking solutions and acutely aware of the “what ifs.”
The only place to find peace and wisdom is in the presence of Father God, yet we are often reluctant to take time to turn to Him and pour out our hearts. Our own thoughts seem more powerful, so we churn over situations again and again, and they grow larger.
When Jesus was informed of the brutal death of His cousin John the Baptist, He sought the presence of His heavenly Father. Mark 6:45 tells us, “Immediately Jesus made his disciples get into a boat and go ahead of him to Bethsaida, while he dismissed the crowd.” He then went up a mountainside to pray, pour out His heart to Father God, and find the refuge He needed to maintain peace and carry on ministering love and life wherever He went.
Jesus needed more than human understanding and comfort; He needed God’s resources to comfort and strengthen Him and to minister to the deep sadness caused by this brutal death.
Life has many ups and downs, things we don’t understand, and questions only God can answer. The place to find restored peace is when we pour out our hearts and listen to whatever God imparts as we spend time with Him, allowing His perspective and comfort to heal and instruct. This will cause us to stand up and walk on, knowing He is our refuge, our strong tower, our Prince of peace.
God’s presence brings supernatural resources; He knows how to help us. Sometimes there are no words, yet the load is shared and the burden is lightened. He understands and provides what we need in times of trouble. We are not alone; He walks with us and imparts His wisdom and direction.
