LIFE AND HEALTH
03rd Jun 2026
I love the verses in Proverbs 4:20-22, “My son, pay attention to what I say; listen closely to my words. Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart; for they are life to those who find them and health to a man’s whole body.”
The first time I became aware of these verses was when I heard a testimony from Derek Prince, who served in the forces during the 2nd World War and was stationed in North Africa. He was suffering with his feet and heard that he was to go on a lengthy route march. He had been reading these verses, but faced a dilemma. Can I believe this scripture, or do I not march and claim sickness because of my feet?
He chose to believe the word of God and set out on the route march. God was faithful, and he returned with his feet in better condition than when he began, and much better than many of his fellow soldiers.
We can apply this principle to all life situations. There are so many things that are trying to rob us of peace. We need to take hold of God’s word. Psalm 119:165 says, “Great peace have they who love your law, nothing can make them stumble.”
Jesus’ disciples were going to experience a very difficult time as He was about to go to the cross, but He left them with these words, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” (John 14:27)
Nehemiah was encouraging the people after they had built the walls of Jerusalem, but faced much opposition. “Go and enjoy choice food and drinks….Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.” (Nehemiah 8:10)
We have been experiencing unusually hot weather, and I was feeling a bit reluctant to cut my grass when the words of Psalm 27:1 came to mind. “The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” I fired up the mower and now have a beautifully manicured lawn!
The key words of the verses above are - “for they are life to those who find them and health to a man’s whole body”
So enjoy some “life and health” as you put God’s Word into practice!
