THE ROCK THAT IS HIGHER

King David knew that when life gets tough, there is a place to go where you can feel safe and protected.
Psalm 61:2-3 says, “From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For you have been my refuge, a strong tower against the foe.”
I was born in Cornwall and spent much of my childhood at the beach. It was great fun climbing on the rocks and gaining a different perspective of everything around. There is something strong and reassuring about rock, it stands firm and immovable.
Life has its ups and downs, and it is so easy to let it drag you down, bring discouragement, and dent your faith. When you read the life of David, you can see he had his fair share of difficulties and challenges. Saul was trying to kill him, and others were plotting to usurp his authority.
In the very next Psalm, 62, David again declares God's ability to be a rock that keeps him strong and stable. Verse 5-7 say, “Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken. My salvation and my honour depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge.”
Are you facing things that are shaking your foundations? Is life robbing you of peace? Are there difficulties that seem to have no answer?
Pray the words of David, “I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I.” I find that when life is hard and there are things that I am facing that seem to have no solution, I need to step aside, find a quiet place and let God’s peace restore me.
I need to climb on the rock of my salvation, where I gain a new perspective and let Him restore my faith and peace, and bring back joy and hope.
