THE NAME OF JESUS
22nd Jan 2020
Recently we’ve been singing a worship song that contains amazing truths -
Jesus, Jesus, You make the darkness tremble
Jesus, Jesus, You silence fear
Your Name is a light that the shadows can’t deny
Your Name cannot be overcome
I love the change in atmosphere as the body corporately sing our these statements - people’s spirits are lifted and Jesus is honoured as his Name drives away sadness and hopelessness. It is not simply a song, but a declaration of who Jesus is, all that He has achieved, the power that resides in Him and much more.
Sometime ago, during a domestic row, a Christian lady used that Name and addressed her bully of a husband who constantly criticised and belittled her. “In the Name of Jesus, stop speaking to me like this!” He stopped, unable to continue his abusive behaviour. I don’t know who was the most shocked!
Our daughter was about to be attacked in her own home by an ex-prisoner who she and her husband were seeking to help. He had knife in his hand and she was both afraid and bold at the same time. Her words to him were, “In the Name of Jesus you will not touch me.” He ran from her, dropped the knife, and was later remanded in custody. She still had to deal with the shock and trauma, but physically was unhurt.
You have been give the right to use the Name in all sorts of situations. I burnt my arm on the oven and it was taking forever to heal. Someone asked me what was wrong, my reply was, “I burnt it and it just won’t heal.” “Then tell it to in the Name of Jesus,” came the reply. I was shocked but obedient; I did just that and in a very short time it stopped weeping and was healed.
Use that Name in personal situations, in danger, in sickness, in prayer to bring peace and comfort. Another much older song has a similar theme -
Jesus, Your Name is healing, Jesus, your Name gives sight
Jesus, Your Name will break every stronghold
Jesus, Your Name is life
Jesus speaks to His disciples in John 16:24, “Until now you have not asked anything in my Name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.”
