MIXED WITH FAITH
25th Sep 2013
God had made promises to his people that they would be delivered and would have rest, but they could not receive it, nor did it do them any good because it was not “mixed with faith”. (Hebrews 4:1-2) I love that phrase “mixed with faith” because it has the ring of a recipe from a cookbook. In the kitchen, when a cake or some other wonderful recipe goes badly wrong, a court of inquiry is held to see whether all the instructions have been carried out. Has there been a missing ingredient that did not get into the mix?
This is what God is saying to his people in Hebrews 4, “I made promises to you, I wanted to give you a wonderful land to live in, I wanted to give you victory over all your enemies, but it didn’t happen because you couldn’t trust me. You had the promises but you missed out the “faith” ingredient.”
God is still making promises and He will have made promises to you, but because they are not happening quickly enough we stop adding that essential ingredient “faith”. We find ourselves looking at our circumstances and mixing in “fear”. Why has God not answered my prayer? Why has God let me down? Why does God answer other people’s prayers and not mine? The fact is that the promise still remains, God is a faithful God and longs to answer our prayers. When we stir in “fear” and leave out “faith” we are blocking the promise in the same way that the Israelites did in the desert.
In 2 Corinthians 1:20 it says, “For no matter how many promises God has made they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God.” That is God’s heart towards us, He gives us the many promises and is wanting to hear the “Amen” of faith that will release the answer.
Don’t let disappointment, discouragement, impatience, fear, frustration, get into the mixing bowl - when the missing ingredient is “Faith”.
