MAINTAINING FAITH
09th Apr 2014
The disciples of John the Baptist had been sent to find out whether Jesus really was genuine. They had seen the miracles and were about to return. As Jesus sends them on their way He concludes his remarks by saying, “And happy is the man who never loses faith in me.” (Luke 7:23 J. B. Phillips)
Those words, “never loses faith” really struck me. As the circumstances of life surround us, as we cope with disappointment and failure, it is so possible to get our eyes onto the problems and away from Jesus.
A life of worship is a key to faith, because it lifts our eyes away from what is going on around us and focusses them on the greatness of God and the transforming power of Jesus. Be a worshipper today and build your faith.
A life of thanksgiving is a key to faith, because as we give thanks for all the good things that God has provided, the way He has protected and cared for us and the blessings He has showered down on us, our temporary problems are put into context, faith rises and we strengthen our faith. Know that God who has been faithful in your past will again prove faithful in your future.
A life of giving is a key to faith, because giving takes our eyes off ourselves; it may be giving tithes and offerings, or love and care, but it proves we are trusting God’s faithfulness. Jesus promised, “Give, and it will be given to you....” Look away from yourself today and meet someone else’s needs - God will be faithful to meet your needs.
A life of trusting God’s promises is a key to faith, because as the Psalmist says, “He is faithful to all his promises and loving to all He has made.” (Psalm 145:13) So don’t let go of the promises that God has spoken into your life, even though it may have been a long time coming.
“Never lose faith,” for as Paul said, “We live by faith, not by sight.”
