LIVING WATER

I love reading John 4. Jesus’ encounter with a Samaritan woman is a remarkable story. He exposes her sinful life without condemnation, offers her ‘living water’ without conditions, and releases her to tell the whole town about Him and invite them to, “Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did. Could this be the Christ?” with an amazing response. “Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman’s testimony.” Jesus’ template for personal witness is an example for us all to follow.
The chapter also speaks of supernatural resources for all believers. John 4:14 says, “But whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” Do we access that “spring of water” on a daily basis? Is the world around us robbing us of refreshment and making us dry and thirsty? Isaiah 12:3 says, “With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation.”
Also, the disciples have left Jesus at the well to go into the town to buy food, later they return to be surprised to find Jesus in conversation with a woman. When they offer Jesus something to eat he replies, “I have food to eat that you know nothing about.” Here is another source of supernatural strength that is available to believers. By way of explanation Jesus tells the disciples, “My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish the work.” When we feel that we would like folk to be kind and helpful to us, the key is to reach out and bless others, because Jesus said, “Give and it will be given to you.”
Romans 8:11 says, “And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you.”
Life is challenging, but there is a source of supernatural strength and refreshment available to all believers, however to benefit from this, we have to tap into and draw on all that Jesus has made available to us.
