LAUGHTER
02nd Sep 2015
The Bible declares that laughter is good medicine. I’m sure that all the scientific reasons were not known at the time, but recently listening to a radio programme on mental health, I heard again how laughter was presented as a means of combating tension and stress and releasing endorphins that will do you good. Laughter also boosts the immune system and protects the heart.
So when did you last laugh out loud? I’ve recently had some of my grandchildren staying and we have laughed a lot. We watched lots of films and cartoons, told jokes, laughed at funny incidents, etc. But once they left I found I laughed less! We take ourselves and life very seriously.
God laughs at his enemies, it’s a form of rebuke. Psalm 2:4 says, “The One enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord scoffs at them.” and Psalm 37:13 declares, “The Lord laughs at the wicked for he knows their day is coming.”
I have seen the power of God heal people when they have deliberately used laughter against the tactics of the enemy, declaring the might and majesty of our God and his ultimate victory over the devil. When Jesus rebuked the storm on Galilee, the root meaning of the words He used are that He laughed and ridiculed the storm, and it was stilled.
I once heard of a man who laughed himself well. He bought old Laurel & Hardy films and just sat, watched them, and laughed and laughed at the slapstick comedy. The result was amazing - the good medicine worked.
In recent years, by God’s Spirit, laughter has erupted in church services and supernatural healing has been received, tiredness removed and deep healing taken place.
David prayed in Psalm 51:8, “Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones you have crushed rejoice.” And when God’s people were released from captivity it says, “Our mouths were filled with laughter and our tongues with songs of joy.” Psalm 126:2
Check out your joy level today, and ask that joy and laughter will be released in you.
