KEEP PRAYING
23rd Apr 2025
Some years ago, we were part of a Christian Ministry where many people would come to receive prayer, seeking a breakthrough in their lives and ministry. We were also raising our family of five, who were in their early teens.
There was an incident when one of our sons exploded a home made bomb. We were involved with a weekly gathering, when folk from all around would attend. This particular evening was the culmination of several weeks of teaching, and time for folk to make a real commitment to follow Jesus. It was at a crucial moment in the service when the bomb exploded. No one was injured, and I will tell the full story on our video, but as we reflected on this drama, we felt that it was a wake up call to us regarding praying for our family.
It seemed that our time was so filled meeting the needs of others, that we had neglected to really pray for our own family. Our life changed from that moment. We set the alarm for a half hour earlier and set aside that time to daily pray and intercede for our children.
At this time God gave us a promise from Isaiah 44:3, “I will pour out my Spirit on your offspring, and my blessing on your descendants.” For a while it seemed as if nothing was happening. We would gather for breakfast and look around the table and everything look the same, but we persisted and saw each one of our children come to a strong and vibrant living faith in Jesus.
I was reminded of this when reading Hebrews 10:35-36, “So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.”
We all like immediate answers to prayer, and we can become weary and give up when we don’t see anything happening. Jesus taught that it is important to keep praying, even when the situation is tough.
In Luke 18:1-8 it says, “Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up.” He then describes a widow who kept pestering the judge until she got what she wanted.
Are you discouraged and weary in your praying? - it is time to keep going and not give up.
