IN TRAINING
17th Jan 2024
Last night I needed to catch the chemist before it closed and pick up a prescription that had been phoned through to me. It was touch and go if I made it before closing time. I got there with 3 minutes to spare, apologised for being so late.
Whilst I was waiting, a lady came in flustered saying she had completely forgotten to pick up her prescription, which was ready for her in a big bag. They stated that there was no charge, and she agreed it was for a long term medical condition. As I smiled at her I could see her stress, relief, and the heavy load she was carrying.
I got to where my car was parked and found myself spontaneously thanking God for His goodness (that I caught the chemist before it closed), His provision, His help, for warm clothing (it was very cold) and I praised God all the way home!
This morning I was reflecting on this and realised how little I thank God. In 1 Thessalonians 5:18 we are commanded to, “give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ.” I wrote a list of things I am thankful for at this moment in time and asked the Lord to make me more aware of speaking out my thankfulness - so I’m in training!
Thanksgiving puts ones eyes on God and His goodness; it changes our focus. It’s a form of worship, and a weapon against negativity in all its forms. One year I kept a thanksgiving diary and every day I gave thanks for something specific that had happened each day - it made amazing reading.
Whatever form your thanksgiving takes, doing it will enable you to see how wonderfully Father God cares for us, cherishes us and wants to do us good.
Start now and thank Him for life, health, His life in us, for Jesus, for wisdom, for favour - and keep going!
