INDISPENSIBLE NECESSITY
05th Feb 2020
Last time I was in Australia, I met three Chinese young people who were attending a Church in Northern Queensland, and were among only a few Asian’s present. After the service I talked with them and discovered that two had recently received Jesus and were thrilled with their new life, the other was undecided, drawn to God, but still weighing up the cost.
In the afternoon, the Church family were celebrating a birthday at a nearby lake, and all were invited. The two who were believers had other plans, so I found myself walking around the lake with a delightful young woman, who shared with me something remarkable.
As a very young child, in China, she attended her grandmother’s funeral in a remote village. She and her cousin were playing outside whilst the many rituals were taking place. A very old person came to them and with great authority said something she had never forgotten. The essence was this, “Whenever you are in need or in trouble pray these words, “God, Jesus, I need you, will you help me?”, and He will.”
She had never heard of God Jesus, but the words created both fear and longing and had never been forgotten. So she began to call on the name of the Lord Jesus. She had many testimonies of direct answers; in times of danger, when needing favour, and during exams and job interviews. As she told me these things she was tearful, and I was able to tell her the parable of the Good Shepherd looking for His lost sheep.
She has now moved back to China and on to others things, we are in touch intermittently via FaceBook. The story hasn’t ended. She had proved that “all who call on the Name of the Lord are heard, answered, rescued and receive love and favour.” Ecclesiastes 12:1 says, “Remember your Creator in the days of your youth, before the years take their toll and your vigour wanes.” (NIV & Message)
Psalm 105:3 (AMP) encourages us to make the Lord an “indispensable necessity” to call upon Him, bring Him into every situation that life throws at us. So pour out your heart to Him and take His help, instruction and wisdom.
Jesus told His disciples, “Without me you can do nothing” and I am still learning that the more I lean on Jesus’ resources, the more joy, strength and life is mine.
