HE RESTORES MY SOUL
29th Apr 2020
We often think of Psalm 91 as full of God’s promises for our physical wellbeing, but have you ever thought about Psalm 23 as God’s plan for our mental and emotional health.
This is probably the best known of all psalms, but have you ever applied it to your own life and seen how it meets all our innermost needs? David had his fair share of life challenges, so is very well qualified to declare God’s all sufficiency.
“The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing” We have a Father who knows and cares for us as a shepherd does his sheep. We see that clearly in the parable of the lost sheep, the shepherd was always protecting and caring for the flock. Our Shepherd is caring for us.
“He makes me lie down in green pastures” We need to make sure that we are feeding ourselves healthily both physically and spiritually, with good food and with the Word, worship and prayer.
“He leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul.” Things are very quiet around here, no planes from Bristol Airport! Make sure you use the quiet around you to listen to God’s voice and to allow His Presence to give you spiritual strength.
“He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake” Our Shepherd has His hand upon our lives and is guiding us, and knows our future.
“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me.” We are most certainly surrounded by death, but we will not fear because we have eternal life. Our lives are in the hands of the Shepherd.
“You prepare and table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil, my cup overflows.” So much fear is dominating our world at this time. But for us believers, fear has no hold on us. We are living under His anointing and are full of the joy He gives us.
“Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” We spend a lot of time thanking God for all His love and care our family and friends, and also know that we are bring pursued by His goodness and mercy every day.
