THE HELP OF GOD
16th Jun 2021
It’s good to be reminded that everything we have and are comes because of the blessing and faithfulness of God. Abraham couldn’t boast about his wealth, his achievements, his vast progeny - it was all a result of God’s blessing. Romans 4 tells us that Abraham believed God’s promises and received His blessing. It wasn’t wages for working hard, simply grace released by faith.
It’s so easy to slip into a ‘works mentality’ - e.g. If I behave like this, God will be pleased with me, and I may get what I have prayed for? No - anything we receive from God is because of His mercy, grace and love, and we receive by believing what He has said He will do.
It’s not a try harder exercise, it’s quite the opposite - we admit our helplessness and need of a Saviour, and that dependency releases the grace of God towards us.
Mankind in general is plagued with pride and generally finds it difficult to express any inadequacy. People want to be self reliant and find in themselves all they need. You and I may see the foolishness of this, but easily fall into the same trap.
Whilst praying for the world leaders over the G7 summit, our prayer was for them to see their need of wisdom from God. Whatever field of expertise you may be in, you still need the help of God. James 1:5 reminds us if we lack wisdom we need to ask God for His wisdom which He promises to give to us freely.
Jesus, with greater wisdom than Solomon, dwells within us and is always there to lead us, advise us, correct us and help us. Why would we not rely on Him, even in the small insignificant personal details of life, as well as national issues that effect the lives of millions?
Turn to our Father God today, acknowledge His blessing on you, repent of self effort and turn again in childlike dependence to Him who is wanting to fulfil every promise made to you in His word.
1 Kings 8:15 Solomon declares, “Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel, who with his own hand has fulfilled what he promised with his own mouth to my father David.”
