A GOOD DIET
25th Feb 2015
Reprinting my 2 year Bible Reading plan, “If you want to Grow.” has again stirred in me the passion I have for consistent daily reading of the Bible. Making sure God’s Word has a priority in our lives I believe is essential. Job 23:12 says, “I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my daily bread.”
I have also just finished reading the autobiography of Mo Farah, the Somalian born British double Olympic Gold medalist. A breakthrough moment in his career came when he went to share a house with some Kenyan athletes, and realised that these guys didn’t feed themselves on pizza and Big Macs but were very careful about what they ate. He had spent years trailing in behind the Kenyans and Ethiopians and wanted to learn the secret of their success. It was more than their diet, but that was an essential part of it.
So how is your daily spiritual diet? Is it a quick prayer here, and a memorised verse there? Or is it a good balanced intake of the Word? Here are some of the benefits:
“Great peace have they who love your law, and nothing can make them stumble.” (Psalm 119:165)
Jesus said, “You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you.” and “The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life.” (John 15:3 & 6:63)
“I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.” “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path” “Your statutes are my heritage forever; they are the joy of my heart.” (Psalm 119:9, 105, 111)
“All scripture is God-breathed and is useful....so that the man or woman of God may be equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
Has your daily time with God become dull? Rekindle your love for God’s Word and check you’re getting a good daily spiritual diet.
