GOD'S POWER
20th Nov 2024
Last Sunday in Church we were led to reflect on God’s power, to remind ourselves how great He is and how His power has been displayed in many different circumstances. His power in creating the world, His deliverance for Israel as a nation, and for individuals like Moses, Joshua, Gideon, Daniel and Jonah.
It is good to read the accounts telling the details of God’s amazing activity in such different circumstances. At the end of our time together we were encouraged to choose a verse from a selection of Scriptures that had been printed out. This is mine, from Jeremiah 32:17 - “Ah, Sovereign Lord, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you.”
It is good to fix our eyes on Father God and remember His magnificence as well as His love and care in giving Jesus and making us His own children. Sometimes we forget Who we belong to, and it’s a good to actively remember and worship.
I’ve been singing a couple of golden oldie songs -
“Our God is an awesome God,
He reigns from heaven above
With wisdom, power and love
Our God is an awesome God.”
And - “Oh God, who made the earth, the air, the sky, the sea,
Who gave the light its birth, He cares for Me.”
As I ponder the world scene, so depressing and sad, it’s helpful to declare it is God’s world and pray that His Kingdom will be established on earth as it is in heaven, and that He will continue to reveal Jesus to all who do not yet see.
Recently, I was reading in Daniel about God’s dealings with Nebuchadnezzar - a ruthless dictator, dominating the known world of that time. God touched him very personally, he lost his mind for a time and lived as an animal. However, when he was restored, his understanding enlightened, he wrote words recorded in Daniel 4:35-37 says:
“His dominion is an eternal dominion;
his kingdom endures from generation to generation.
All the peoples of the earth are regarded as nothing.
He does as he pleases with the powers of heaven
and the peoples of the earth.
No one can hold back his hand or say to him: “What have you done?”
Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and exalt and glorify the King of heaven, because everything he does is right and all his ways are just. And those who walk in pride he is able to humble.”
Today, declare our God’s greatness and power and acknowledge that nothing is too difficult for Him.
