GET HIS DIRECTIONS
06th Oct 2021
When you have been used by God in a special way, seen a mighty victory, you can be very vulnerable and forget that you are human and merely a channel of God’s power - He is the worker!
Elijah found himself in this state after the battle with the prophets of Baal and Jezebel’s threat to kill him. He was exhausted, hungry, tired, under attack and not functioning well. However, our merciful, kind Father God does not condemn him - He cares, sending an angel to minister to him. Note in Matthew 4:11, that after the testing time Jesus experienced in the wilderness, angels came to minister to Him.
Remember, Elijah has seen God’s supernatural provision during 3 years of drought, God has given him specific instructions of where to go and has directed ravens to feed him by the brook at Cherith (1 Kings 17:6) and then a widow to provide for him (verse 7 -16). So he has experience of God’s voice and has received personal guidance, however, he made a decision to travel 40 days to Horeb, only to face God’s question, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”
Twice he was asked the same question and he gave the same answer. There is no record of him being sent to Horeb and it is possible he was motivated by panic rather than the “still small voice” which he knew and had relied upon in the past.
Reading this I am challenged to listen to the voice of God’s Holy Spirit, to be very intentional in seeking God and to be led by the Spirit on a daily basis. Reading 1 & 2 Kings and hearing the detailed directions given to Elijah and Elisha, I’m challenged to expect instructions in every aspect of life.
In Jeremiah 23:18, God speaks, “But which of them has stood in the council of the Lord to see or to hear his word?" Friends, it is time to move again at the direction of the Holy Spirit; to stir up the gifts and anointing of the Holy Spirit; to get excited as we see God at work, to wait upon Him and to get His directions.
Romans 8:14 says, “Those who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.”
