OUR FITNESS REGIME
15th Apr 2020
We are finding the lock down time during this Coronavirus pandemic changes things in our daily routine. Because we are encouraged to get our daily exercise, we have done more walking than ever.
More importantly we need to be spiritually fit. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-17 says, “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ.” These three commands have become more important to our daily fitness regime than ever before.
We are praising and worshipping more. We are singing lots of worship songs, some new, some old. This is important to our spiritual fitness, also that we actually sing out our songs of praise. In Psalm 22:3 it says that God is enthroned on the praises of His people. I love the song based on that psalm, “Jesus we enthrone you, we proclaim your are King, standing here, in the midst of us, we lift You up with our praise. And as we worship build Your throne - Come Lord Jesus and take your place.” Our worship is defeating the works of satan, and declaring the victory of Jesus.
We are praying more. We are covering our family and friends in prayer, we place the Blood of Jesus over the lintel and doorposts of our homes so that the destroying angel will not enter. People come into our minds, and we pray, and many times phone or send a message. But when we pray we seek for a specific scripture or prophetic word for each situation. I believe that is important; vague, scatter gun praying is mostly ineffective.
We are thanking more. These are challenging times, but as we look back we have so much for which to be thankful. Psalm 50:23 says, “He who sacrifices thank offerings honours me and he prepares a way so that I may show him the salvation of God.” I believe there is a key here, as we constantly live with an attitude of thanksgiving we are preparing a way for God’s blessing to surround our lives.
When they were building a road on the Isle of Raasay, they stopped two miles short of a house belonging to Callum. So undaunted he spent the next 10 years extending the road, with pick, shovel and barrow, until it reached his house. It is still called Callum’s Road. Your thanksgiving is preparing your own blessing road!
So keep fit in body, mind and spirit!
