DEDICATION
07th Aug 2024
We have been watching the Olympics and enjoying Team GB’s successes. As I was listening to the interviews I was amazed at the dedication given to achieving a gold medal. The 5am starts, the daily training routine and the sacrifice of other things, all to win a medal.
I found this challenging and began asking myself whether my dedication to my faith and walk with God was as whole hearted and intense? I well remember the occasion David Pawson asked about our commitment to regular reading of God’s Word. I was convicted of my casual approach to daily Bible reading, and changed from that moment, and now read through my bible every year. (Using the Bible Plans I have written!)
I think back to my grandparents who would never accept an invitation to an event on Saturday evening, as they were preparing for the Sunday. Whether they were preaching or not, it was part of the lifestyle they had chosen.
Paul states his dedication when he says, “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.” (Galatians 2:20)
When writing to the Romans, again Paul states, “Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God - this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” (Romans 12:1-2)
So I find myself asking in what way do I order my life in line with my dedication to my faith and my relationship with Father, Son and Holy Spirit? Am I spending time daily in prayer, worship, in the Word and in fellowship, so that my spiritual muscles are being exercised and my spiritual fitness is being developed?
Athletes will be constantly measuring their performance so that they are moving towards their goal.
Peter writes at the end of his second letter, “But grow in grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.” (2 Peter 3:18)
Are you aiming towards a spiritual Gold medal, or are you content to be an also ran?
