ADMITTING MY NEED
30th Jun 2021
This morning I filled in an evaluation form. It was asking me to comment on the treatment I received at a clinic where I recently had cataract surgery. My response to all the questions was positive, I especially valued the kindness of each person who cared for me and walked me through the procedure. The result is, I can now see very clearly and am delighted with my new lens!
In facing every medical procedure there is a little anxiety; others may tell you about their experiences and seek to re-assure you, but until you have walked through the experience yourself, it’s theory. I put myself in the hands of a team of medics believing them to have the expertise to correct my eyesight, and in so doing believed they would care for me and do a good job.
Pondering on this I had to trust that this medical team had the expertise to treat me, and I placed myself in their hands; I needed their help. I could have refused it, fearful of damage to my eye; but I am so glad I went ahead with this small op., and am now reaping the benefits of clearer sight.
Hebrews 4:16 tells us to, “come boldly to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” In order to find mercy, grace and help we have to come. Giving up our independence and submitting to someone else, humbling ourselves, trusting in God’s great love and ability to to care for us and help us in our time of need. It is not easy to admit we need help, that we cannot do “life” on our own, that we need God’s resources.
Admitting we need help is very alien to our human nature, independence and self-sufficiency are ingrained in us, and admitting we can’t so something and need help can be a battle. In my experience, whenever I admit my need and turn to Father God, asking for help in whatever area of life, the quicker I receive His wisdom, peace, help and supernatural intervention.
Don’t be like a horse who needs a bit in it’s mouth in order to turn it in the right direction. (James 3:3) Come willingly to your Father God who is waiting to help you. The moment you turn to Him, His attention and heavenly resources will be available.
