ACCUSER OR COMFORTER?
25th Jul 2018
Who are you listening to? Our thoughts and feelings can play tricks and cause us a great deal of distress and fear. When we have an infection which seems to stubbornly refuse to clear up; when a pain occurs in our body which does not have a natural explanation; our thoughts can immediately think of cancer or some life threatening disease.
It is good to go through the process of seeking medical help, but in many cases our reaction is irrational and comes because we are listening to the wrong person. The devil is described as “the accuser of the brethren” and it is so easy to allow his words of death and disaster to rob us of peace and blessing.
Isaiah 55:8-9 says, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
Revelation 12:10 says, “For the accuser of our brothers, who accuses them before God day and night has been hurled down.”
In the battle for the mind and heart we have to ask ourselves who we are listening to - the devil is the accuser, and the Holy Spirit is the comforter. The devil is a defeated foe and we have been given authority to silence his words of fear and death. On the other hand Jesus said, “The words that I speak are Spirit and they are life.”
These are real issues, we are in touch with friends who are going through a time of battle and trial, and the devil is doing everything he can to overwhelm with thoughts of hopelessness and despair. As believers we live under God’s blessing and with the destiny He has spoken over our lives.
Psalm 138:2-3 says, “For you have exalted above all things your name and your word. When I called you answered me; you made me bold and stouthearted.”
Fill your life with the words of the Comforter, and don’t listen to the Accuser.
