YOU ARE NOT INVISIBLE!
29th Dec 2021
You are not invisible! Sometimes you may feel you are! You can wonder if anyone knows you, appreciates you or even sees you? I have good news, Jesus sees everything and values you, He understands and is ready to listen and help. He sees beyond the obvious right into the heart of the matter, and because He sees, He is able to give answers, to draw alongside, to help, comfort and tell you that no matter what judgements others may make in a particular situation or circumstance, He sees the full picture. He also wants to give you ‘eyes that see’.
Take the story in Luke 21 - a widow is putting money into the temple offering - two small coins. The disciples see an old lady, obviously poor, maybe shabbily dressed as she drops her two small coins. Jesus sees that her offering may be small but her heart is enormous; she has given far beyond her means and Jesus comments on this to disciples who haven’t developed the ability to see beyond the obvious.
Jesus understands because He sees into hearts, motives and with His prophetic insight, beyond what human senses can observe. Throughout the gospels He speaks of those who, have eyes that see but are blind. He is the ‘Light of the World’ and as He indwells believers He wants to reveal the things He sees to us by the Holy Spirit, so we treat people according to His ‘insight’. He wants us to see the invisible and get that quality of knowledge, not the superficial.
Ponder the story of Hagar in Genesis 16. Hagar has run away from Sarah her mistress and is in the desert when she has a heavenly encounter with an angel. Her response is to exclaim, “I have seen the God who sees me.” and she obediently goes back to Sarah and Abraham pregnant with Ishmael. It couldn’t have been easy, but she knew God was aware of her and her circumstances.
In Genesis 21 she again finds herself in the desert, sent off because Ishmael is seen teasing his half-brother. Again she is in a desperate situation, her supply of water has run out and death is a real possibility. ‘The one who sees’ comes to the rescue, He tells her he has seen her tears and heard her cry. He then opens her eyes so that she sees a well of water. His first words to her are, “Don’t be afraid, God has heard, He knows the fix you are in.” (v17). He then gives her hope and a practical solution.
Be assured that He sees you. You may be in a life or death situation or simply feeling alone and neglected, but the One who sees wants to give hope, deal with fear and reassure you, “He will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5)
