WORDS
27th Jun 2018
I once heard this statement, “Each of us is the product of all the words that we have received throughout our life, and all the words we have spoken.” Life is surrounded by words they impact us from the moment we wake until we fall asleep, and then we may well hear “words” in our dreams!
We probably all know the verse in Proverbs 18:21, “The tongue has the power of life and death.” So what we hear and what we say are of the greatest importance.
Jesus said, “The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life” (John 6:63) So the daily input of God’s word has the power to change us and transform. Here is a word about peace, “Great peace have they who love your law, nothing can make them stumble.” Another about resisting temptation, “I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.” (Psalm 119:165 & 11)
God’s word gives us insight into life, “The word of God is living and active. Sharper than and double edged sword….it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12) It has cleansing power, “You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you.” (John 15:3) Job said, “I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my daily bread.” (Job 23:12)
Let us monitor carefully the words that we receive, some we have control over others just happen around us. However we do have the control over the words that we speak. Paul told believers in Colossae, “Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.” (Colossians 4:6) The Message in Ephesians 4:29 says, “Watch the way you talk. Let nothing foul or dirty come out of your mouth. Say only what helps, each word a gift.”
Hebrews 10:25 tells us the vital need of being meeting as believers, “Let us not give up meeting together…..but let us encourage one another.”
Life is full of words - listen right, read right and speak right!
