WORDS OF LIFE
10th Sep 2014
In a world so full of negativity, it is important that our lives and surrounded by “Words of Life”. The ‘words’ that we allow into our lives, and the ‘words’ that we speak into the lives of others. Jesus said, “The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life.” (John 6:63)
One of our friends has had a very difficult year with several medical procedures, and was in hospital for what she hoped would be the final time. The operation had been completed, but as the night wore on pain and discomfort were seeking to bring the fear that all was not well. However, into her mind came, “Weeping (fear) may last for a night, but joy comes in the morning.” (Psalm 30:5) These became ‘words of life’ to her and in the morning the pain had gone and she has now fully recovered.
Another friend was suffering with back pain, however she had promised to help her granddaughter with a fund raising event. So as not to disappoint she arrived ready to play her part, but had selected some scriptures to be her ‘words of life’ - “In him I live and move and have my being” - “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” - “As are my days so shall my strength be.” The day proceeded, the event was a success and our friend returned home pain free!
It is not just words that bring healing, but words that strengthen and build up. In Hebrews 3:13 it says, “But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today.” I am finding so many friends who are going through difficult times, there are others who have recently been bereaved. They all need to hear words that will comfort and strengthen.
Who will you encourage today? It is amazing how a ‘text message’ can bring hope and strength in times of stress, and a phone call can transform someone’s day.
