WHAT DO YOU SEE?
31st Jul 2019
It is said that some people always see the glass “half empty” while others see it “half full”. How we see things is very important as it dictates the whole course of our lives.
Psalm 25:15 (NLT) says, “My eyes are always on the Lord, for he rescues me from the traps of my enemies.” It is amazing how people can go through the same circumstances and for some it is fear inducing, and for others it is a stimulus to faith.
Caleb is a classic example. He was chosen along with 11 others to spy out the land of Caanan. As they travelled through the countryside, he and Joshua saw all the potential, realised the land was full of enemies, but knew God was on their side and He would most certainly give victory; and returned full of faith. The other ten saw only giants, felt like grasshoppers; and returned full of fear. (Numbers 13)
This reminded me of an old chorus, “Twelve men went to spy on Caanan, Ten were bad, two were good….. Some saw the giants big and tall, some saw the grapes in clusters fall, some saw that God was in it all.”
Hebrews 12:2 says, “Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith who for the joy set before him endured the cross….” When we fix our eyes on Jesus our whole perspective changes, the difficulties are transformed into possibilities.
Those whose lives are dominated by fear look down, they can only see the problems of today and the difficult circumstances of the now. Those who live by faith look up, see beyond present trials and difficulties to the promises of the future.
What do you see? Do you see the promises of God’s blessing on your life? Do you see His power at work changing things around you? Do you see the promise of His second coming and our glorious future?
Keep looking with “Eyes of Faith” not “Eyes of Fear”, for “The one who calls you is faithful and He will do it.” (1Thessalonians 5:24)
