WATER
16th Nov 2016
As I write, we are almost at the end on our trip to Australia and New Zealand, it has been great and we have enjoyed meeting up with so many family and friends.
‘Water’ has featured everywhere; up in Mareeba with Ben, Anne and 5 of our grandchildren, I can still hear Anne saying, “Are you drinking enough water?” In the heat of the tropics it is important not to get dehydrated. We also experienced tropical storms, when it rains it really does rain! In New Zealand we watched as rafts negotiated the biggest drop on any White Water River at the Okere Falls, Rotorua, and most of the time we have been beside the ocean.
My thoughts then went to the Psalms, where it says, “As the deer pants for streams of water so my soul pants for you, my God.” (Psalm 42:1) Water is vital to our existence naturally, but our thirst for ‘living water’ is the measure of our spiritual health.
How thirsty are you? What about your daily intake of the life giving water that comes only from God? Our life of faith begins as Jesus described it to the woman at the well in Samaria, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” (John 4: 13-14) As a believer, you have a spring of water inside you refreshing you, strengthening you, sustaining you.
On that last great day of the feast Jesus cried out, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.” (John 7:37-38) When you receive the infilling power of the Holy Spirit you are given a never ending stream of living water to flow out into the lives of others.
So this is your spiritual hydration check! Are you thirsty for God? Is the salvation well bubbling up within you? Is the living water of the Holy Sprit flowing through you into the lives of others?
