TOUGH TIMES
26th Jun 2013
Sometimes, life is tough, we live through sad times, friends die, others have to make difficult choices with no easy answers; but it is good to remember we are not alone. Our friend Jesus has promised “never to leave us, nor forsake us” - and He always keeps His word. (Hebrews 13:5) Do you know, if He didn’t, everything in the universe would collapse?
Today, I was praying for my friends who are going though tough times, and for myself as I felt sad and in some ways inadequate to help, when into my mind came the song which Liverpool Football Club have taken as their anthem, “You’ll never walk alone.”
When you walk through a storm
Hold your head up high.
And don’t be afraid of the dark,
At the end of the storm is a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of a lark.
Walk on through the wind
Walk on through the rain
Though your dreams be tossed and blown
Walk on, walk on with hope in your heart,
And you’ll never walk alone
You’ll never walk alone.
It is not just singing a familiar song that helps, it is our hope in Jesus that keeps us persevering and tapping into His powerful resources. In times like these to know that Jesus understands and that our hope is in Him means that we don’t even have to speak words, when all we can manage is tears. He reads your heart and knows how to give to you all that you need. He is with you - in fact, He is in you.
God’s covenant with His people can never be broken. Jeremiah 33:19 says, “This is what the Lord says: If you can break my covenant with day and my covenant with night...then my covenant...can be broken.” So every morning, as the dawn breaks, you can be assured that you are entering another day of God’s faithfulness to you.
Let Him comfort you today and make you a comfort to others
