A STRONG TOWER
16th May 2018
On a recent visit to Bulgaria we visited Asen’s Fortress, an amazing structure which has perched on an outcrop of rock for about 1000 years. The main building, a monastery, is high, isolated and must have felt very safe to those living there.
Proverbs 18:10 says, “The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run into it and they are safe.” When we are going though challenging times, it may be health issues, a family crisis or other personal trials, and there is not an immediate solution, we need a safe place where we feel protected and can recover our strength and restore our faith.
Psalm 46:1 says, “God is our refuge and strength, an ever present help in trouble.” These are the times when no one can give us any answers, which is when we need to run into the arms of our Father and find Him to be our place of real safety in our world which seems to be falling apart.
Many times the friends that we share our situation with want to be “fixers”, they love us and want to help us find answers and solutions. It is out of their love and concern for us that they want to see us helped and healed. However, many times there are no easy answers and no quick fixes, which is when we need to run to the “Strong Tower” and find a place of peace.
King David, who had his fair share of trials and tribulations declared, “You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble with songs of deliverance.” (Psalm 32:7) In these times of pressure, if we will listen, God will bring into our minds worship songs or hymns which become “songs of deliverance” and are all part of the blessings of the “Strong Tower”.
