STIR UP
03rd Jul 2019
Recently I was reading Jean Darnall’s book “Heaven, here I Come” which both challenged and inspired me. Joyce and I had lived through those exciting days back in the 70’s & 80’s when we saw the Holy Spirit in action transforming lives, bringing amazing revelation and so many miraculous healings. I believe we have gone off the boil!
The Lewis Revival which broke out more than 70 years ago. was the result of those who cried out in prayer, “Oh, that you would rend the heavens and come down, that the mountains would tremble before you…come down to make your name known to your enemies and cause the nations to quake before you!” (Isaiah 64:1-2). Let us cry out for a new outpouring of God’s revival power on this land.
Peter and John went into the temple to pray, saw the cripple begging and spoke with confidence and boldness, “In the Name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.” A miracle happened which caused wonder and amazement among the people. Lord, give us that authority and boldness to heal the sick.
In Acts 4 when the disciples were under great pressure and persecution, they were not going to retreat, but gathered to pray, “Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak you word with great boldness. Stretch out your hand to heal and perform miraculous signs and wonders through the name of your Holy servant Jesus.” After they had prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken, and they went out with authority and boldness. Oh, for some more “building shaking” prayer meetings, which result in bold declaring of the gospel.
Paul told the Corinthians to “Eagerly desire spiritual gifts, especially the gift of prophecy.” (1 Corinthians 14:1) The gifts of the Holy Spirit are available to every Spirit filled believer. Let us reach out for them and use them to advance God’s Kingdom.
Even Timothy went off the boil and caused Paul to instruct him, “I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands.” (2 Timothy 1:6)
Where are the powerful moves of the Holy Spirit, where are the miracles, where are the building shaking prayer meetings, and where are the manifestations of the mighty gifts of the Spirit?
We need to hear Paul’s instruction - Stir Up!
