STAND FIRM
15th Nov 2023
There are times in life when situations arise and we find we have no resources to meet them; we can do nothing except pray and wait for God’s help and His promises to be fulfilled. It is in these times that God says, “Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you.”
Moses had these words as the Egyptians followed Israel as they left Egypt, surrounded and seemingly trapped. God told Moses, “Do not be afraid….the Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” And He did! (Exodus 14:13-14)
Many times in impossible situations, God acts on behalf of His people. In 2 Chronicles 20:15, Jehoshaphat was faced with a huge force about to attack, he calls the people to pray and the prophetic word tells them not to be afraid, that the battle is not yours but God’s.
Verse 17 says, “You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the Lord will give you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Go out to face them tomorrow, and the Lord will be with you.” And He was!
The early church faced many hardships, persecution, much opposition and death. Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 15:58, “Dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that you labour in the Lord is not in vain.”
James 5:8 again encourages us to “be patient and stand firm.” Fear and discouragement are real enemies. Praise and faith are tools to fight with. What has God promised you in your situation? Hold on to his Word. Stand firm. He will act on your behalf.
“Be still and know that He is God.”
