SPLASH OVER
03rd Aug 2016
1 Thessalonians 3:12 in the Message says, “And may the Master pour on the love so it fills your lives and splashes over on everyone around.” It’s holiday time and reading the phrase “splashes over” brought pictures to my mind of families in the sea, enjoying the surf and splashing everyone around!
There is a spiritual principle here. Everything that God pours into our hearts, is not just to meet our needs, but it should overflow into the lives of others. 1 John 4:19 says, “We love because he first loved us.” Love is such a vital ingredient in our lives.
When we meet Jesus and invite Him into our lives, He not only forgives us and gives us eternal life, but pours His love into our hearts. Romans 5:5 says, “God has poured his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit whom he has given us.” We are those upon whom God is pouring out an inexhaustible supply of love. It is as if we are standing under a waterfall of His love, and our response is to let that love “splash over” on everyone around us.
It is not only love, in 2 Corinthians 8 & 9 we read about the Macedonian believers who even in their severe trial “welled up in rich generosity” and gave financially to the Corinthians believers. Paul later expands it like this, “And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.” Let your generous giving “splash over” into the lives of others.
In 2 Corinthians 1:5-6 speaks of “the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles”. He is able to come into our time of sorrow and bereavement and fully meet our needs, but He does more than that because, “through Christ our comfort over flows.” Others will be comforted because we have received comfort.
Let us live lives that are always “splashing over.”
