SPLASHING OVER
20th Aug 2014
I was reading 1 Thessalonians 3:11-12 in the Message where Paul is praying for the new Thessalonian believers. He asks God to clear the road so he can visit them and continues asking God to, “pour on the love so it fills your lives and splashes over on everyone around you.”
Isn’t that a great image of the Holy Spirit pouring out on us and filling us up, then overflowing and splashing on whatever and whoever is in our vicinity. We are the carriers of the resurrection power of Jesus, the One who reigns over every enemy including death, who is dynamite, able to blast every immovable object opposing us, but is at the same time gentle and like a mother caring for her children, loving and giving what they need.
Are you living with God’s resources? Jesus told the disciples to wait in Jerusalem until they were empowered by the Holy Spirit. When Pentecost came with the great outpouring of the Holy Spirit, everyone was affected by what they felt, saw or heard, you couldn’t ignore what was happening.
This was seen when Peter and John were standing before the Sanhedrin after the healing of the man at the Beautiful Gate. Acts 4:13 says, “When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realised that were unschooled ordinary men, they were astonished and took note that these men had been with Jesus.” Sounds like there was a bit of “splashing over” taking place.
And if He is splashing on those around you there will be an effect. Ask God the Father to pour over you a fresh deluge of the Holy Spirit, and that the overflow will splash over all those who you are in contact with.
