SONGS OF DELIVERANCE
04th Oct 2017
Over the past few days I have been aware that both Joyce and I have been singing a number of songs that have been feeding our faith as we have been praying for several very serious healing needs and other challenging situations.
This reminded me of the words of David in Psalm 32:6-7, “....surely when the mighty waters rise they will not reach me. You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance.”
So when the “mighty waters rise” in our lives and we are confronted with seemingly impossible situations, we need to run to the “hiding place” who is Jesus. Proverbs 18:10 says, “The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run into it and they are safe.” That means that we will not run into fear, anxiety, our own wisdom or human reasoning.
Once in this safe place we need to be surrounded by “songs of deliverance”. God will pour into your mind and heart songs of faith and strength. Often these are old songs and hymns that you almost thought you had forgotten. One of the songs of the past few days has been from the first Scripture in Song book compiled by Dave and Dale Garrett in 1977, the words come straight from 1 John 5:14-15.
“This is the confidence that we have in Him,
That if we ask anything according to His will,
He hears us, and if we know that He hears us
We know that we have the petition that we desired of Him.”
Singing lifts our faith, singing puts joy in our hearts, singing drives out the doubts and fears, singing pours peace into troubled places. When God’s people were in captivity they couldn’t sing, they even hung their harps on the poplar trees (Psalm 137:2). The enemy wants to rob us of our song - don’t let him.
God has a “Song of Deliverance” for you today - just sing it!
