SIT DOWN!
24th Sep 2014
It seems that so many of us are always on the run, restless, chasing our tails! Jesus recognised that our world is constantly trying to rob us of rest and peace, so when He wanted to have some quality time with His disciples he took them aside and told then to “Sit down.” Matthew 5:1 says, “Jesus went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him and he began to teach them.” They needed time to listen, time to be able to take in the important things that Jesus was saying.
We need to set aside time every day, sit down, and let God’s word really sink into our hearts and lives. Get hold of one of my Bible Plans and give time to systematically reading through the Bible on a regular basis.
When Jesus went to the home of Martha and Mary what did He find? “Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made.” but “Mary sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said.” Martha was none to pleased to be left doing all the work, and she wasn't backward in making her complaint heard by Jesus. “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself?” The story is a familiar one and the reply she received was, “Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken from her.” (Luke10:38-42)
Work around the house is never finished, the grass always needs cutting, and there are those DIY jobs still waiting. However, Jesus was affirming Mary, because we all need to take time to “sit down” and listen to God speaking to us on a regular basis.
Ephesians 2:6 says, “And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion.”
Jesus wants each of us to “sit down” - receive His word, hear His voice and live above negativity and strife.
