SHAKING
06th Jan 2021
Hebrews 12:26-28 says, “Once more I will shake not only the earth but the heavens…..Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful….” This verse came into my mind several days ago, well before the announcement of another lockdown.
So what do we do when everything around us is being shaken? We check our foundations and make sure that our faith and confidence is in God. We do act responsibly and obey the rules that have been put into place to keep us all safe, but at the same time we keep our eyes upon Jesus and His word of promise.
So after having that “shaking” verse come to mind I began thinking about the promises in God’s word that ensure that I remain in a place of peace and confidence in God that with all that is going on around us, He will bring us through safely.
I read recently that the centre verse of the Bible is Psalm 118:8, “It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man.” What a great pivotal verse to build our place of faith.
Philippians 4:19 says, “My God will supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” We often use this verse when we are praying about financial need, but it is much wider than that. “All your need” means all your need! Your peace, security, health, well being, your joy, your provision at every level.
I love the way the New Living Translation puts Lamentations 3:22, “Yet I still dare to hope when I remember this: the faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease.” It continues, “They are new every morning, great is his faithfulness.”
I also found myself singing an old hymn:
“My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus blood and righteousness
I dare not trust the sweetest frame but wholly lean of Jesus’ name
On Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand.”
