SEE HIS GLORY
04th Dec 2024
A few days ago I was listening to a Carol Concert on the TV, whilst occupied with a mundane practical task. The words of an old carol jumped out at me -
“Not in that poor lonely stable, with the oxen standing by, we shall see Him, but in heaven, set at God’s right hand on high…”
I stopped what I was doing and began to ponder on what I had just heard. I wonder how you see Jesus? Do you see Him glorified, His heavenly persona, or do you limit Him to the human? For me, I felt challenged to think again of who He is, and ask the Holy Spirit to show me His splendour, majesty and glory. His might, power and ability; to whom nothing is impossible, and the One before whom every knee will bow.
All through the scriptures, prophets, priests and kings get glimpses of His glory and write words of honour and wonder. Some who are privileged to see visions of His majesty, fall at His feet as though dead. Moses asked to see God’s glory, and God showed him His back, hiding him in the cleft of the rock to protect him from the destructive effect of the purity and splendour of His presence.
Moses never talked of this experience, it was an ‘out of this world’ event. However, Moses was changed by this encounter, and understood something of the greatness of God, that totally influenced his whole life. Those who have glimpsed anything of His glory are personally changed in the way they live, but also in the understanding of His majesty and ability to fulfil His promises.
Chris Bowater wrote a song -
“See His glory, see His glory,
See His glory now appear,
God of light, holiness and truth,
Power and might, see it now appear.”
I want to see and live with a new sense of the glory of Jesus, and let the revelation of who He is fill my life, rule over every thought and action, creating faith in His ability to change everything He touches. A new understanding and awe of “Christ in me”.
