THE ROCK THAT IS HIGHER
08th Mar 2017
Life has a way of trying to get us bogged down with all sorts of issues and problems that want to dog our path. This was going through my mind as I read Psalm 61:2 “From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I.”
The first thing we get from this “rock” is perspective. We need to look at the situation from God’s point of view. We need to see that He is all powerful and nothing is impossible to Him. Psalm 37:5 says, “Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will act.”
When reading the Psalms, I find that David had his fair share of troubles, it seems there is always someone trying to put him down, oppose him and threaten his very life. In Psalm 18:2 he declares, “The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock in whom I take refuge.” David found this "rock" to be his place of safety and security. When it seemed that everyone was against him, he knew that God was always on his side.
In Psalm 40, David is again giving a testimony to how God rescued him out of what he describes as “a slimy pit, out of the mud and mire, and set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.” Here the “rock” is stability when everything around seems to be shaking and trying to disturb our foundations.
Psalm 61:3 continues, “For you have been my refuge a strong tower against the foe.” David saw the “rock” as a place of defence against the enemy. Life is not bland and our enemy the devil will do all he can to defeat us.
So today, whatever is going on around you there is a “rock” where you can go, gain perspective, feel safe and secure, defeat the enemy and receive wisdom.
