RESURRECTION POWER
30th Mar 2016
We have just celebrated Easter, and for each of us that will have been different. The songs and hymns that focus on the Cross and the Resurrection are always a central part of our celebrations. A couple of weeks ago Joyce began singing a song we had learned some years ago, “Hallelujah, I am free, Sin and death have no hold on me, We’ve got resurrection power, flowing on the inside.” It has a very catchy tune, very few words and we found ourselves walking around the house singing this song. (Click the link below and watch the YouTube video of this song).
This was the unique message the disciples of Jesus carried as they began to impact Jerusalem after the Day of Pentecost, “With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and much grace was on them all.” (Acts 4:32) The heart of Paul’s message was the resurrection, his passionate cry was, “I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection.” (Philippians 3:10)
What does it mean for us to say, “We’ve got resurrection power, flowing on the inside.”? I believe it means that we have access to supernatural power to transform every part of our lives every day.
It means that our natural weakness and limitation is transformed into living in His power and with His resources. Paul was under great pressure and wrote, “I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” (2 Corinthians 12:10)
When the disciples were hiding away dominated by fear, Jesus appeared among them and said, “Peace be with you!” His resurrection power turns sadness to joy; turns mourning into rejoicing; turns sickness to healing, and turns hopelessness into a new vision for the future.
Romans 8:10 says, “And if the Spirit of who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you.”
