POWER TO OVERCOME

When David was anointed by the prophet Samuel, in 1 Samuel 16:13 it says, “…from that day the Spirit of the Lord came upon David in power.” Later, David as he fights Goliath is aware that this equipping by the power of the Spirit is the only reason he is able to slay such a giant warrior, and speaks out, “This day the Lord will hand you over to me, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head. Today I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds of the air and the beasts of the earth, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel.” (1 Samuel 17:46)
David is not trusting in his own ability, but the anointing that rests upon him. As Daniel 11:32 says, “The people who know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.” How aware are you that this is not an external anointing on you, but rather an eternal presence within you?
If you have been born anew, and have been rescued from the kingdom of darkness and transferred into the Kingdom of Light, you have resident within you the Spirit of God, and He is greater and more powerful than any form of darkness, and He will enable you to become an overcomer. Your ‘Goliath’ may not be a Philistine warlord, but the Spirit of God, the anointing that was on David is now within you as a child of God, a container of God’s Spirit, and you too can become an overcomer.
If God tells you to do something, He will give you the resources that are needed to accomplish His command. You cannot in the natural, but you can and will if you understand and rely on the Spirit of God and not your own resources.
As you prepare for a new day - actively see yourself clothed in power from on high, tell yourself the truth, “God by His Spirit is in me, goes with me into this day, and is able to equip me with wisdom and everything I need.”
My daily prayer is, “Fill me afresh with your Spirit, let me rely completely on You today, thank you that the greater one who lives in me overcomes every enemy, and in His strength so will I.”
