THE POWER OF SINGING
05th Nov 2025
Singing is powerful, and songs of praise are essential in the life of every believer.
Songs of praise silence the enemy. In Psalm 8:2, it says, “From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise because of your enemies to silence the foe and the avenger.” Here, even children are gaining victory over the devil by using songs of praise.
Singing is God-given and His unique gift to His people, and throughout scripture, we are constantly called to sing praises and learn the power and benefits of singing.
The familiar words of Psalm 100 begin with, “Make a joyful shout to the Lord, all you lands! Serve the Lord with gladness; come before His presence with singing…” That’s what we are called to do every day as we face all the challenges of life, and it leads to a declaration that - “For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting, and His truth endures to all generations.”
Psalm 42:8 states, “By day the Lord directs his love, at night his song is with me.” Being awake during the night can be a battleground for the mind, but God promises to give us a song that will counter fear and declare His presence and power.
On a night recently, God reminded me of the words of an old song based on Psalm 86:10-12
“For thou art great, and doest wondrous things:
thou art God alone. Teach me thy way, O LORD;
I will walk in thy truth: unite my heart to fear thy name.
I will praise thee, O Lord my God, with all my heart:
and I will glorify thy name for evermore.”
As I sang these words silently, so as not to wake Joyce, I found them powerful and restorative.
Not only do we sing in response to God’s hand upon our lives, but God also sings over us. Zephaniah 3:17 says, “The Lord your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing.”
In an earlier message, I spoke about receiving a Song in the Morning. Each day, if you listen, God will give you a song to help set your day on the right track.
So, how is your singing? Are you starting your day with singing? Are you defeating the devil with your praises? Are you entering His gates with thanksgiving? Are you receiving His songs in the night? Are you listening as He rejoices over you with singing?
