THE POWER OF SINGING
06th Jul 2022
Singing is a unique gift from God which has been given to believers to bring strength, healing, joy and blessing.
In Psalm 40, David is going though a crisis, he cries out to God, who rescues him and lifts him out of the pit, places his feet on the rock, but also puts “a new song in his mouth, a hymn of praise to God.”
Again in Psalm 32:7 David declares, “You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance.” Not only is there protection and rescue from the problems of the moment, but there is a song.
Both Joyce and I constantly find ourselves singing worship songs and hymns as we awake each day, some are “golden oldies” but they always contain words of encouragement or strong truths which we need in facing the demands of life.
As Jesus and His disciples left the upper room to go to Gethsemane is says, “When they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.” (Matthew 26:30) Did that hymn give them strength and courage to tackle the challenges ahead?
A friend of ours who was recovering from an extremely traumatic time in her life was given the song, “Praise the Name of Jesus, He’s my rock, He’s my fortress, He’s my deliverer in Whom I will trust, Praise the Name of Jesus.” This song ministered great power and blessing and helped her to come through to complete healing.
It is not only the songs we sing ourselves, but God sings over us, Zephaniah 3:17 says, “The Lord your God is with you, he is might to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing.”
Singing is very powerful and has been given to us by God. Don’t neglect this wonderful gift; use it to keep up your joy levels, bring peace into your daily lives, effect healing in your minds and spirits, and keep you strong in faith.
