ON FIRE
19th Aug 2020
John Wesley declared, “Light yourself on fire with passion and people will come from miles around to see you burn.”
We have heard many prophetic words about a new move of God at this time, and are praying for revival in these critical days. It is possible to be very passive as we wait for something spectacular to happen, when we personally can be a catalyst for revival, now.
The words of John Wesley are very challenging and we need to stir up our hearts to be what God has intended. Paul told Timothy to, “fan into flames the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands.” We are finding in this Covid crisis time that there is a greater openness in people, they are ready to hear our testimony of why we are not bound by fear, and many times they are willing to receive prayer.
Jesus said of John the Baptist, “John was a lamp that burned and gave light, and you chose for a time to enjoy his light.” (John 5:35) Jeremiah speaks of the word that has been given to him by God, “His word is in my heart like a fire, a fire shut up in my bones. I am weary of holding it; indeed, I cannot.” (Jeremiah 20:9)
We need to be a fire that is brightly burning and is visible for all to see as we talk to our friends, family and neighbours; we need a message like Jeremiah that is burning in our hearts, a message of hope, blessing and victory.
When Jesus was talking to the two friends on the road to Emmaus, even though they did not know who He was, once their eyes were opened and they realised who this stranger was, said, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road an opened the Scriptures to us?” (Luke 24:32) When we burn with passion and share it with others, the fire will jump over on them.
So let’s get set on fire in our hearts and have a message that burns like fire, and - “people will come from miles around to see us burn!”
