NOURISHED
18th Aug 2021
In 1 Timothy 4:6 (NLT), Paul when writing to Timothy describes him as, “one who is nourished by the message of faith and the good teaching you have followed” - I love that word “nourished”.
On a cold winters day we love eating a rich home made soup with fresh bread and finish the meal feeling really “nourished!” We also need to know the way to be nourished in our spiritual life. We know how we feel naturally hungry and look forward to a good meal, but do we think about being hungry in the spirit?
There are times when life is busy with so many demands being made on us, we feel frazzled and also needing refreshment in our inner man. What should we do?
Our verse says, “nourished by the message of faith”. I have a daily Bible Reading Plan and find this a great foundation to start the day, because, “Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God.” But I also want to listen to messages that will build me up and encourage my faith. There has been so much on YouTube and FaceBook during this lockdown time. Many times Joyce and I have looked at each other and said, “Let’s listen to a message that is going to encourage our faith.”
Worship ministers to your spirit, it may be the song that God has given you to start the day, or you may want to listen to your favourite worship album. You might tune into UCB. There are many ways, choose the one that suits you.
We were reading on FaceBook a testimony of a friend who has offered to pray for everyone who has delivered stuff to her house during the pandemic. One of the delivery men was very resistant, and refused to receive prayer, but came back sometime later when he was in need and not only was blessed by the prayer but was healed! A brilliant, encouraging and faith building story.
In the reading that I do I always like to include the stories of heroes of faith. We have just been loaned a book, “As many as the Stars” by Robert Glover. Joyce has read it and is recommending it to everyone. It is the next book I will read.
Are you feeling hungry and under nourished in your walk with God? Find what stimulates your appetite and have a good feed.
