FROM NOTHING TO SOMETHING
28th Oct 2015
The preacher was being introduced, he was a very accomplished man, highly qualified and very successful, and Joyce and I sat there feeling like the country cousins with straw sticking out of our hats! I don’t want to be negative as he was a fine preacher and we were stirred and challenged by his message.
However, our human accomplishments count for nothing with God, who does not mind who we are and where we come from. “But you are the ones chosen by God.... to tell others the night-and-day difference he made for you - from nothing to something, from rejected to accepted.” (1 Peter 2: 9-10 in The Message)
We live in a world where there is a pecking order and it is so easy to get sucked into the system. We need to remind ourselves that we have been adopted into the best family that exists, and our Father delights in everyone of His children and does not favour one above the other.
Paul has the same message for the Corinthian believers,“Take a good look, friends, at who you were when you got called into this life. I don’t see many of “the brightest and best” among you..... Isn’t is obvious that God deliberately chose men and women that the culture overlooks and exploits and abuses.” (1 Corinthians 1:26-28 in The Message)
It does not matter how we began, when God got hold of us He made us into a brand new person. He has cleansed our past and forgiven our sins, guilt and shame. He has a destiny for us which is to mould and shape us like His Son Jesus.
We have the best family line that there ever has been, Abraham is our father and he was promised that in him all families would be blessed. “You are Abraham’s seed and heirs according to the promise.” (Galatians 3:25)
Leave rejection and loneliness today and rejoice that you are a royal child of the living God, and live in the centre of His blessing.
