NOT ALONE
08th Apr 2015
Recently we spent the evening with a friend who has seen God transform his life from the depths of drug addiction and despair to belonging to Jesus and knowing the reality of His loving care. The words that most impacted me were, “When God and me collided, I knew I was not alone any more!”
He told us of being in crowds, of attending parties, surrounded by all sorts of people, but inside there was utter loneliness, until he met Jesus. He went on with his story, which is a thrilling account of how God restored his mind and body, and how he is just about to launch his own business using his skills as a chef to create a potentially very successful catering business.
When Jesus was about to leave his disciples and return to His Father he said, “I will not leave you as orphans, I will come to you.....On that day you will realise that I am in the Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.” (John 14:18 & 20) When we meet with God, invite Him into our lives and receive His life transforming Holy Spirit, isolation and loneliness are banished. We are in His family, we are valued and loved.
As Jesus was finishing his words to the disciples He said, “You will leave me all alone. Yet I am not alone, for my Father is with me.” (John 16:32) In Hebrews 13:5 it says, “God has said, Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”
The enemy would try and tell us -
“You are a reject” - when God says, “You did not choose me but I chose you.”
“You have no value” - when God says, “You are precious and honoured in my sight.”
“You are not really loved” - when God says, “How great is the love the Father has lavished on us.”
Loneliness is a great enemy, and it threatens to rob even God’s people of peace and identity. Don’t let it get a hold on you - “collide” with God and you are not alone any more!
